Study In The UK
Quick Start Guide For International Students
Use our quick start guide to plan your studies in the UK!
What Are The Entry Requirements?
Bachelor's Degrees
| Academic Requirements |
A high school qualification equivalent to the British A Level or International Baccalaureate.
Most high school qualifications from outside the EU1 are not accepted for direct entry, due to
differences in curriculum and length of study. For most international students, a
University Foundation Course
is the fastest route to a UK University.
|
| English Requirements |
An English level equivalent to IELTS 6.0 - 6.5 overall (5.5+ in each skill).
If you need to improve your English, you can study a
University Foundation
or Academic English Course first.
|
| Minimum Age |
You must be 17 years of age at the start of the course.
|
Master's Degrees
| Academic Requirements |
An honours degree (minimum Second Class or GPA 60%) in a related subject from an internationally recognised university.
MBA programmes also require 3 - 5 years work experience in a managerial or professional role.
If you have a Third Class or Pass degree, you will need to study a
Pre-Master's Course
first.
|
| English Requirements |
An English level equivalent to IELTS 6.0 - 6.5 overall (5.5+ in each skill).
If you need to improve your English, you can study a
Pre-Master's
or Academic English Course first.

How Much Will It Cost?
Depending on the university and degree subject, you will need between £10,000 - £17,000 per year for tuition fees and
£1,000 - £1,200 per month for accommodation and living expenses. A Bachelor's degree takes 3 - 4 years to complete
and a masters takes 12 - 18 months.
London and the South East of England are the most expensive
areas, while the North of England and Scotland are the cheapest.
What Are The Student Visa Rules?
The main considerations for international students are:
- To get a student visa for the UK, you will have to provide proof (e.g. bank statements) that you
have the funds to pay your tuition fees and expenses for the first year. If you are unable to provide
the necessary financial evidence,
the university will not support your visa application.
- To prove your English level, you may have to pass a
UKVI IELTS Test.
- Students from certain countries have to be
tested for TB
to study in the UK for more than 6 months.
- You can only bring family if you are studying a Level 7 course (i.e. master's or higher) at a publicly funded
university for more than 12 months.
More details can be found in our
Guide To UK Student Visas.
