About This Course

Most medical schools in the UK require successful completion of A Levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB), with top grades in Biology, Chemistry and either Maths or Physics. Overseas students also have to demonstrate an English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 7.0 (7.0 in each skill).

The International Foundation Year (Medicine) provides an alternative route to medicine for international students who have not studied A Levels or IB. It is accepted for entry to a medical degree at Cardiff University, subject to grades and other conditions. Please note this international programme does not accept UK students.

Important: Progression to a medical degree is not guaranteed. Successful progression is subject to a competitive entrance interview and you may have to pass an admissions test (e.g. UKCAT or BMAT). It is also very important to demonstrate your interest and commitment through work experience and voluntary work in the health sector. Students who are unable to progress to medicine may be offered an alternative, for example Biomedical Science.

Entry Requirements

Academic Completion of high school with excellent grades, including Chemistry and either two other sciences or maths and one science.
