Pre-Arrivals Checklist

The checklist below provides specific information concerning your arrival and enrolment in the United Kingdom.

  • When you collect your passport, it will contain a vignette and you will receive a confirmation letter. The vignette is valid only for 30 days and must be replaced by a Biometric Residence Permit1 (BRP) after arrival in the UK. The confirmation letter provides instructions on where to collect the BRP. This will be either a location on the university campus, or a post office. Make sure you collect the BRP before your vignette expires.
  • When you arrive at the airport, you may be asked to show your CAS Letter, vignette and confirmation letter, bank statements, academic and English qualifications and proof of accommodation (e.g. an accommodation contract). Make sure you carry these documents with you in your hand luggage, so they are ready to present if requested.
  • When you enrol, you will need to show original certificates for any academic and English qualifications mentioned on your CAS letter. So make sure you have them with you.
  • Citizens of some countries are required to register with the police after arrival in the UK. If that is the case, it will be stated on your BRP.

1 A Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) is your full student visa. It is the size of a credit card and contains your photograph, fingerprints and expiry date. It also states whether you are permitted to work in the UK and whether you must register with the police.

Disclaimer: The information provided in this section is for guidance only. You should always check with the UK Government's Website (Visas & Immigration) for the latest information before applying for a student visa. Failure to follow the correct procedures is likely to result in your application being refused and could affect your ability to obtain a visa in the future.
