Foundation Years For International Students

The University of Birmingham usually requires top A Level or IB grades for direct entry to a bachelor's degree. Some overseas qualifications¹ are accepted, but most international students have to study a foundation year before progressing to a degree at Birmingham.

There are two foundation options, depending on your academic qualifications and English level.

• The Foundation Pathway is taught on campus at the university and offers progression to selected degrees across a wide range of subjects. You will need excellent high school grades (85% or B grade average) and an English level of IELTS 5.5 - 6.0 overall (5.0 all skills). The course is taught on campus by members of the academic staff at The University of Brimingham. • The International Foundation Certificate at Kaplan International College offers guaranteed progression to a similar choice of degree subjects at the University of Birmingham, but with lower entry requirements and a wider choice of start dates. This course is taught in London and the foundation certificate is also accepted at other universities, including Bristol, Queen Mary, City, Westminster and York. IGCSE Students

The Foundation Pathway offered by the University of Birmingham does not accept IGCSE qualifications. If your highest qualification is IGCSE, then you should apply for the International Foundation Certificate at Kaplan International College, London.
