Foundation Years For International Students

The University of Manchester usually requires A Levels (or equivalent) for direct entry to a bachelor's degree. Some overseas qualifications¹ are accepted, but most international students have to study a foundation year before progressing to the first year of a degree at Manchester.

There are two foundation options, depending on the subject you want to study, your academic qualifications and your English level.

• The Integrated Foundation Year is taught on campus at the university and offers progression to selected degrees² in Science and Engineering. You will need excellent high school grades (A/B or 90% average in relevant subjects) to qualify for this course and you have to meet the university's standard English requirement (IELTS 6.0, with 5.5 in all skills). You must apply for this course using the Universities & Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).
• The INTO Manchester International Foundation Programme offers guaranteed progression to a wider range of degree subjects and has lower academic and English requirements. It leads to a nationally recognised Foundation Certificate, which is accepted by many leading universities in the UK as well as Manchester. Important: IGCSE Students

IGCSE qualifications are not accepted for entry to a Foundation Year at The University of Manchester. If you are an IGCSE student and you want to study a foundation year at a leading UK university, we recommend the following options. All the universities listed below have a similar or higher rank to Manchester and accept IGCSE for entry to their foundation years.
