Study in Oxford
Oxford is known as the ‘City of the Dreaming Spires’ because of its dramatic and attractive skyline, punctuated
by the towers and steeples of the city’s many churches and college chapels. Oxford is England’s oldest university
town and the earliest colleges date back to the 13th century. The city centre is dominating by the architecture of
the many colleges that make up the University of Oxford, home to 20,000 students from all around the world.
Some of the largest colleges, such as Magdalen and Christchurch, have extensive grounds, which are open to the public.
They are ideal places to relax, walk and go punting with friends. Radcliffe Square is one of the most distinctive
squares in Europe, with its famous round building, the Radcliff Camera, as its centrepiece' the square is surrounded by
some of Oxford oldest colleges, St Mary’s Church and the Bodleian Library, one of the largest book repositories in the
world.
Oxford’s university heritage makes it a great place to study, both academically and socially. There are numerous
libraries and bookshops, as well as a large range of restaurants, bars and nightclubs to suit all tastes. For the
sporty, there are plenty of leisure centres, rowing clubs and an ice-rink. The River Thames and the nearby Cotswold
and Chiltern Hills offer plenty of opportunities for walking, riding, sailing and other outdoor pursuits.
