City College Brighton and Hove is a large community college in the centre of Brighton, catering for the needs of around 9,000 students each year.
Sometimes described as 'London by the Sea', Brighton is a vibrant seaside city on the south coast of England, only an hour by train from London.
City College has a long tradition of welcoming overseas students who want to study in the UK, with students from well over 100 countries. For most of the time, international students study alongside UK students, so there is plenty of opportunity to practice English and experience British culture at first hand!
Facilities
College facilities include a large Resource Centre, including books, periodicals, CDs and DVDs, plus e-mail and internet access. There are IT suites with drop-in centres for assignment based work, as well as workshops and photography studios for art students. The campus is also equipped with a cafe serving breakfast, lunch and early evening meals.
Accommodation
The accommodation administrator can help students find suitable accommodation near to the college. The most popular option is homestay accommodation, where students live in a single or shared room with a local family. All homestays include breakfast and evening meal and are inspected by the college in accordance with the British Council's standards.
For students looking for more independence, the college can help find self-catering accommodation (e.g. a bedsit or room in a shared student house).
Student Support Services
The International Team are available to help students settle in and enjoy their time in Brighton. The Welfare Officer can provide confidential advice on everything from visa renewal and police registration to opening a bank account or dealing with personal issues. The college also has a very successful Students’ Union, run by
students with support from College staff to promote social, cultural and recreational activities.
