This advanced foundation course prepares international students for guaranteed entry to the second year of a bachelor's degree in Business or Management at the University of Sunderland. It is designed for students who do not have the qualifications for direct entry to an undergraduate degree, but nevertheless have very good academic and English skills.
That means capable students who do not quite qualify for direct entry can still get a British university degree in only three years!
The International Diploma is a comprehensive programme of academic study and English language preparation, which includes 25 hours of classroom lessons per week. Depending on your chosen degree subject and study needs, you will study a combination of the following modules:
- English for Academic Purposes
- Introduction to Management
- Business Skills
- Organisational Behaviour
- Accounting & Finance
- The Economic Environment of Business
- Business Research
The Standard Diploma Course starts in September or January. On successful completion (minimum pass mark 40%), you will progress to the second year of a degree in business, starting the following September. The Extended Diploma Course (4 terms) is for students who require additional English tuition and it starts in June or September.
For Entry to the International Diploma
Completion of senior high school with very good grades, equivalent to 2 x A Level passes (DD+), or completion of a recognised university foundation course in business. Minimum English level:
- Standard Diploma: IELTS 5.5 or equivalent;
- Extended Diploma: IELTS 5.0 or equivalent;
Minimum age 17 years. Non-EU students only.
For Direct Entry to a Bachelor's Degree
Students with strong English skills (IELTS 6.0+) and academic qualifications equivalent to A Level (BCC+) may be eligible for direct entry, without the need to study a foundation year first. Contact your student advisor if you are not sure.
The International Diploma is an advanced foundation course in English and academic subjects that prepares international students for entry to the second year of a bachelor's degree at the University of Sunderland. Successful completion of the diploma guarantees progression to selected undergraduate degree programmes in business and management.
Classes are taught at the University of Sunderland Foundation Campus using a variety of university style teaching methods, such as lectures, seminars, tutorials, group work and self study. Assessment is through a combination of examination and coursework. At the end of the course, you will have the English, study skills and academic knowledge needed to compete and succeed in your chosen degree.
