The International Diploma (Business & Management) is an advanced foundation course, equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree at The University of Sunderland. It is ideal for students who have completed an undergraduate foundation course, but did not achieve sufficient grades to progress. It also provides an alternative route to university for students who have completed AS level, but do not want to continue to A2 level.
The course provides a comprehensive programme of academic subjects and study skills, with English language classes for those who need them. It includes 25 hours of classroom lessons per week and is assessed through a combination of course work and examinations. Depending on your chosen degree subject and study needs, you will study a combination of the following modules:
- English for Academic Purposes
- Introduction to Management
- Business Skills
- Organisational Behaviour
- Accounting & Finance
- The Economic Environment of Business
- Business Research
Classes are taught on campus at The University of Sunderland using a variety of university style teaching methods, such as lectures, seminars, tutorials, group work and self study. Assessment is through a combination of examination and coursework.
The Standard Diploma (3 terms) starts in September or January. On successful completion, you will progress to your chosen degree course at The University of Sunderland, starting the following September. The Extended Diploma (4 terms) is for students who require additional English tuition and it starts in June or September.
On successful completion of this course, you are guaranteed progression to one of the programmes at University of Sunderland listed below. The minimum score required for progression is: 40% in academic modules
The University of Sunderland is more than 100 years old and offers a full range of career oriented degree programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Most courses are taught at the City Campus in Sunderland, but a range of business degrees is also taught at the London Campus in Canary Wharf.
The North East of England is a major industrial centre in the UK and the university has developed strong links with locally based businesses, such as Microsoft, Yahoo!, Nissan, British Telecom, Pfizer and Glaxosmithkline. Many degree programmes incorporate work experience and there are opportunities for work placements of between 2 weeks and a year.
